In 2014, JPR was given the opportunity to provide professional services for the South Bend Cubs Performance Center. This was an exciting project with a challenging schedule. Starting at the end of the season, the project needed to be complete before opening day in 2015. With a deadline of April 1, the project was fast tracked, requiring a foundation release from the State of Indiana prior to having a full set of construction documents. There were minor changes to the program along with several changes to the shell of the building which affected the structural design and detailing, however, the client kept the April deadline in mind and was very helpful with decisions that needed to be made.
The South Bend Cubs Performance Center was constructed with a pre-engineered building structure and a brick and metal panel facade. It houses six batting cages, a weight room, office, concessions, and has a great view of the stadium from the mezzanine level. It also includes a walk-out patio on the west side of the center.
