In 2019, the City of Berne began looking to upgrade their existing municipal maintenance building. Knowing they were running out of space at their existing facility, the City understood they needed to look at new properties. JPR, leading the site design efforts, worked closely with the City to better understand their needs in order to develop the best conceptual design for each of the studied properties.
The design team worked to balance the needs for the building size, necessary storage space, laydown space, and other requirements on both small and large prospective properties. In addition, the team worked with the City to design an efficient site flow by considering how a variety of equipment types would move throughout the space. A strategic layout of the site’s programmatic components were studied closely, as the design team worked to identify critical relationships between use areas within the laydown yard to
provide maximum efficiency for the City’s employees.
These strategic design decisions, made during the Preliminary Planning and Construction Documentation Phase, will aid facility employees and provide the City with labor efficiencies for years to come.
