JPR was hired by the Town of Bristol to plan and design the Bristol Business Route Phase II project. This project created a bypass, from the east end of downtown to the southeast end, to relieve the area from severe traffic congestion due to State Highways 15 and 120. The bypass route also connected to areas of potential industrial growth, located to the southeast and southwest of downtown.
JPR performed planning, traffic study, land acquisition management, right-of-way engineering, topographic survey, environmental permitting, utility coordination, INDOT permitting and coordination, railroad coordination, geotechnical investigation, road design, storm sewer design, traffic signal design, route wayfinding signage design, bidding assistance, construction administration, and roadway lighting design, as well as ADA sidewalks and curb ramps on both INDOT and Bristol streets.
A key feature of the project included coordination with Norfolk Southern Railroad, Grand Elk Railroad, and INDOT Railroad Division for the closing of two existing at-grade railroad crossings in exchange for the construction of a new at-grade railroad crossing on the Business Route. Additional key features included intersection re-alignment and traffic signal and roadway lighting design as coordinated with INDOT for the east junction intersections of SR 120 and SR 15, along with Community Crossings Matching Grant coordination, design, and construction administration for a half-mile portion of the project.
